Today I defended my dissertation successfully. There are bureaucratic steps that remain for me, and I do need to put my thesis together into a copy fit for submission, but I am basically done with graduate school.

Yup! Right after I ...

1 - finish the dissertation final submission
2 - apply to about 20 jobs
3 - design two new classes for the spring
4 - revise the dissertation for a book
5 - write 2 articles in the next year
6 - prepare a few conference presentations
7 - write 3 encyclopedia articles on world history stuff
8 - raise my son to adulthood
9 - get tenure
10 - research and write my second book ...

uhhhhh ... I'll get back to you on that slacker thing in a few years. :)
