Does anyone know how to make adobe acrobat show line numbers? Help is useless. Google is unclear.

I would be surprised if it were possible to do this. There are all sorts of technical reasons that I could go deeply into, however what it boils down to is that PDF is a print file (a version of a PS file, actually). These types of files are not required to store data in a linear fashion, preferring instead to store text, font, and position for each piece of data.

Thus, when it prints out, it appears as though items are on lines, but in practice they may not be. There are ways to create PDFs so that the data actually appears on lines instead scattered about, but as this is not enforced, there is no guarantee that files on which you are working are "well formed".

Your best best, I would think, would be to use Acrobat to select the text and paste it into Word of OpenOffice Writer and try to get line numbers from there.
