Nicholas is, essentially, walking.

By that I mean that he stands up with a destination in mind and walks there with considerable stability. He can stop, corner, lower and rise, and otherwise move about. He hasn't taken more than 10 steps (and that's rare) and he still prefer to lower, scoot on his knee/bottom as usual, then stand at the end of the trip.

But he's walking. And his supported walking is better. Shannon and I walked with him from the car to group-therapy today, about a block, him holding onto our hands in classic style. It made my heart sing.

Here are two videos. The first is of the work Nico and I do (with musical accompaniment by yours truly) on his mini-treadmill. There have been studies lately showing improved walking and earlier walking with treadmill use, and really we ought to have started 12 months ago, but whatever. Causality is hard to assess, but it can't hurt and he's enjoying it. I'll let the second video, all 6 seconds of it, speak for itself. He's been hard to video walking, so this will have to do!

Adorable!

I particularly love the walking part, but I am charmed by the regional difference in the "Ants Go Marching" lyrics. It's like "All-y All-y In Come Free", but different.

I'm pretty sure my "ants-go-marching" is highly influenced by recently watching it on Sesame St. I'm sure I've sung other versions over time. I also make up verses about whatever Nico is doing when I sing such songs ("This old man," too).

What's your variant?

Regional differences have shown up on Nico's new bike helmet! I am from Minnesota, I played Duck, Duck, Grey Duck. His helmet has two ducks and a goose and says duck duck goose all the way around the thing. Bah on the rest of the country!
