When a politician accuses a politician of "playing politics" they are, of course, playing politics. Playing politics is what politicians do. Except it isn't play.
The main problem here is that republicans take this more seriously than democrats do.
It's called playing because the term can be selectively softened or declared an 'ad hominem' attack as it benefits one party or another. It's a pretty safe zone to spin from.
Posturing is something the democrats are VERY poor at. I'm not sure that's a bad thing, but we're not going to win unless we get good at it.
The republicans know this, which is why they're fucking up with impunity at the moment.
They have nothing to worry about as long as they can present another candidate.
