Somebody I work with said something like that this morning. Is it a new catch-phrase from somewhere or other or something like that? I'm so out of the loop on this stuff that I'm guessing that it's an old catch phrase....
It's from the first or second season of the Simpsons. So it was, um, 15 years ago ish?
Homer made a "clown-bed" for Bart, except that instead of being cute, it had this giant clown mouth that looked like it was going to devour him, so Bart sat in bed, saying, over and over, "Can't sleep, clowns will eat me ..."
Ahh, of course. It's episode I've seen—I should have clued in immediately. I'll have to remember this fact the next time I'm puzzled because someone who shares my cultural milieu appears to be missing one of the Obvious References I'm making. (My guess is there's only about 5% original content in my thought and speech, the rest of it being adapted, adopted, borrowed, stolen, or lifted bodily from other sources....)
