I hate bureaucracy

My thesis is not done. Although MS Word assures me that the left margin is 1.5" wide, it is in fact about 1.3" wide, and that is not acceptable. I'll have to reprint the whole thing, and reformat it. In fact, because that might push it too close to the 2-volume length, I am going to have to reformat the thesis from double-spaced to 1.5 spaced, and re-do the entire table of contents. This is infuriating.

It's this sort of infuriating detail that made me a Wordperfect person so many years ago- Gates doesn't care about wysiwyg. Sorry you're having these troubles.

I know. I was a WP person for years, then switched for reasons that now escape me (except for general compatability).

Sorry to hear. How frustrating! *hugs* (if that helps)

"This is infuriating."

Dang! that's a lot of paper! And printing time, and general aggravation, and and and . . .

I'm so sorry.

Paper use:

Each chapter individually x 3 (one for me, one for each advisor) = 400 x 3
Six full copies of my thesis (committee + me) = 450 x 6
One misprint yesterday = 450
One half mis-print = 250
And then today's copy = 450

So a very conservative estimate on total paper usage for my thesis in the last few months is about 5,000 sheets of paper!

I'm sorry :(

Does this mean you'll owe a third person a bound version of the thesis?

But at least it's not a total rewrite of the "Oh my god this document upon which my thesis hinged was just exposed as a forgery -- and not the kind the thesis is about" type of thing.

Yeah, it's a minor issue. It's just a pain.

_So_ feel your pain on this one. What made it even more entertaining is that we were packing up the house as I was printing the submit copy.

The microfilming people really need to get a life.
