On a quick read, sounds a little bit like Flowers for Algernon (without the psychedelic sexual awakening subplot). But intriguing.

That's what the NYTimes said too. That the guy wanted to name his project "The Algernon Project" or something, but hopes to skip the sad, sad, ending.
