So I was discussing Abelard and Heloise today in class. I read to the students one of my favorite quotations from Abelard's description of the affair:

"We exchanged more kisses than learned propositions; my hands returned more often to her bosom than to our books."

A man walked by and heard me, turned his head, and shouted, laughing, "This is the religion department!"

Oops. I should have shut the door.

One time I was teaching Romeo and Juliet to a particularly goofy bunch of Grade 9s. We were examining one or another of Mercutio's bawdy banters with Romeo, and I asked them what it was all about. Of course, they were reluctant to answer, so it was me who shouted blithely, "Sex! The whole thing is about sex!"

That was the very moment that a tour of the school happened to be passing by my door.
