Prejudice - Followup

A couple thoughts. First, a few people have pointed out that the big positive is that we know our childcare provider will go to bat for Nico. It's great to know that. Second, one of the things is that Shannon and I, and more importantly, Nico, are likely to encounter this again and again in our lives. We need to find ways to prepare for that.

Being a parent means constantly worrying about whether your kid will fit in (while still maintaining a strong sense of self). I think about it all the time-does the boy have friends? Is he telling us everything about whether he's picked on or not? Will the girl be OK? Etc.

Any rejection of my kids, no matter how slight, can send me reeling (this starts with a sense of 'parenting as guesswork' and goes on from there). It's not even funny. So, yeah, try and prepare for the eventuality, because Nico's going to need you to be prepared.

I'm proud that my son has shown to be stronger about needing to fit in than I was...
