Yesterday after lunch, Nico wandered off to the front door and stood up to poo a little, which I noticed. I then took him to the bathroom, signed bath a number of times, signed potty (toilet, actually), and put him on his kiddie potty. You could tell that he knew this was serious, as he mostly didn't play with the toys around him (during the pre-bath potty-sitting, he plays with the toys and gives them to me to throw in the tub). He pooped, I cleaned him up, and we threw a little party and parade.

Today, late in lunch, he started to squirm and concentrate a little, but kept eating. Edamame course done. Grapes almost done, then he made some sort of sound to get my attention, and signed "bath."

A few minutes later, he, again have dealt with it as a serious moment, pooped in his potty, applauding for himself the whole time.

We are very excited by this development.

Wow. Those are big steps forward!

I love that he's treating it as serious, and also celebrating the accomplishment with his own applause. Having a parade is awfully darned cute, too.

Yay, Nico!

No kidding you're excited! You should be!

After we got the dog, I said, "I will never again underestimate what an extremely good thing it is to have all household residents agree upon where excretory functions are to be performed." Since we hope to have a kid at some point, I expect to be reminded of this again, repeatedly.

Woo-hoo! I remember how excited my brother and SIL were when my nephews grasped the concept.

Yes, well, we haven't given up diapers, and have no intention of doing so soon!

No. But I'm honest. Better you should anticipate such disasters then be blind sided by them.

Yeah.

And we have already had some fun disasters ... they just weren't in the "training" side of things.

Wow, he is doing super-good at this!

(Have I said that someday when we are face to face, I have a kid-poop story to tell you? I do, but I would never put it in writing where it could come back to haunt someone.)

Now, that sounds like I might be criticizing you for putting it in writing. NO! I'm not--your kid is doing great! My story would be highly embarrassing to someone.
