I am watching Anthony Bourdain's show in Chicago. Wow. First of all there are places I can go to (and afford). Second, there are places I have gone to (ok, only Hot Doug's, but it was amazing). Third ... there are the places I can't go to, but wow they look good.

Today's lustful destination - L20.

Tomorrow's real destination (ok, not tomorrow, but soon) - is here. Google says it's 36 minutes away!

I was sick when I found out that in our 20 yrs in Chicago we never heard of that place.

Have some trout for me!

That sounds like it will be delicious.

I want to go to all of those places, though I'm absolutely terrified of the "mother-in-law" hot dog/tamale thing.

I think Moto looks like ridiculous amounts of fun.

When I was with you at Fordham, our friends were taking my wife to a 20+ tasting menu meal at Moto.

It was all that and more.

Sigh.

I had the stupid conference.

Stupid Fordham! (and just think, you got to miss the bar with the mechanical bull)

I'm insanely jealous that your wife got to go there--what all did she try?

[identity profile] lollardfish.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Everything! (I'll let her respond).

Damn. The one weekend of spring break I thought I might visit Chi my friends won't be in town. But in May or June- whenever I get there, PLEASE let's eat the SMOKED FISHES!

Fishes! Smoked Fishes!

(lordy lordy how I miss Wedge's natural, house-smoked salmon. They started cutting corners before we left, but when they were still doing it right. Yay.)

[identity profile] lollardfish.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Anytime you're here, we will go to smoked-fish-land. I promise.

I was trying to figure out how to bring them to your house in March, but the 10-10 hours make it sort of hard this time. Next time I hope.

[livejournal.com profile] goblingirl and I went to Calumet Fisheries last week and it is really really amazing. I had some more of the smoked salmon we bought then for dinner... It's worth the hour+ it took for us to get there from my house. Certainly worth the half hour from your house.

(Apparently the chubs are known to the locals as "fish crack." I bought one, and totally agree.)

I gotta get me some fish crack.

Do. The salmon comes in big pieces that work out to about $12 each (and worth every penny), but the chubs are only a couple of bucks each....

The smoked shrimp are also damn fine.

We also got a fried fish meal; it was good, but nothing to write home about. Stick with the smoked stuff.

Right. Good advice, thanks!
