(no subject)

Today Nico has rejected, in whole or in part, the following: Plain noodles, ravioli, green beans (he ate 5), edamame, chicken nuggets (he ate two), squash, dried strawberries. He has eaten: Oatmeal, 3/4ths of a banana, a handful of blueberries, and some yogurt (with a kids vitamin).

We believe he is deliberately rejecting food in hopes of getting to the sweet stuff, or otherwise being awfully "two." Now, he is two, so there's some excuse, but Shannon and I have just resolve to stop this nonsense. He eats a good breakfast daily, so if he wants to reject food (food we know he eats. I'm not trying to feed him sweetbreads or fried grasshoppers, although with our luck he'd eat them!), mealtime will just have to end.

Grrrr.

Cora developed into a grazer despite our best efforts; we never tried ending meal times, but we didn't give anything regarded as sweet instead. This resulted in long sessions of not eating until everyone was done and the table was boring to be at.

But she does eat and is better about sitting now then she was at two.

Being two is hard, especially when communication is such a challenge as it is for Nico. He has all the emotional needs but even LESS ability to express them than the typical 2 year old.

Weirdly enough, two-year-olds eat less than one-year-olds, even though they're bigger. As I recall, 3-year-olds eat even less and 4-year-olds won't eat anything at all except Cheerios and bananas.

And yet, they survive. It's just confusing for their parents.

5 yr olds sometimes like broccoli, but not frosting. 8 yr olds will only eat pizza.

15 year olds eat everything. Unless it's a girl 15 yr old. Then you're down to tic tacs and diet coke and a single french fry every 3rd day.

Good grief. Not my 15 yr olds -the one who's now 21 and the one who's 16 now.
We call them walking stomach 1 and walkng stomach 2.
I think we've been exceedingly lucky.

I don't actually have a daughter

I speak as a ex-15 yr old girl, except add marlboro lights.

your experience works just fine. I seem to remember being a 15 yr old boy and eating just about continuously, and not gaining a pound!.. now, many years later, boy, that isn't the case.

Hehe-that's my 13 year old going on 14. It's nice though-between him and the dog, not a scrap hits the floor...

Yep. Offer him plenty, let him eat, don't make a big deal of it.

I feel your pain and look nervously forward to starting my kid on candy on purpose oh the horror! No really not ideal but there you go.

ours really didn't have too much of a sweet tooth, thank goodness... except for M&M's. They were happier being bribed with blueberries or strawberries...

picky, picky, picky

He's a massively normal 2 yr old. Ours, while they 'ate'.. they only ate certain things for a few months. He'll survive, just fine, believe me.

Maybe he's holding out for sweetbreads? I would.
