Racism in captions. Words matter

These are all over the blogosphere, but ... check out the captions. There are other examples. African Americans 'loot' and Whites 'find.' Click to see these pictures.

AP's response: "When we see people go into businesses and come out with goods, we call it looting. When we just see them carrying things down the road, we call it carrying items."

Which is, of course, bullshit. They didn't say "carrying". They said "finding". How do they know these items were "found" unless the same standard they use for "looting" was observed?

The most spot-on statement I've read all week (and no, I can't remember where I read it) was, "The response to Katrina is not raising questions about race relations in America. It's answering them." (Or something to that effect.)

AND they explicitly say that the "found" items were "found" "from a local grocery store." Uh...

Racism...
