The essence of my comment was: I could not possibly take a class without handwritten notes. My note-taking is so good that my notes have been distributed to the entire class on multiple occasions and I am asked for copies pretty often in any class I take.. I use my own design of note-taking paper, multiple colors of ink and I have beautiful handwriting. And this learning tool and I are so well-adapted to each other that I rarely have to review my notes once I take them.
I haven't any idea what people who bring computers to class are doing with them, but I suspect them of surfing FB and thinking about drinking and sex. I might feel differently if I could touch type, I suppose. Curious that I often write something on the keyboard to find out what I am thinking about, so for me typing is a different kind of language and brain access than handwriting. I rarely do that sort of writing with a pen. I wrote papers in college on the computer, exclusively, and of course I met darling B through type-written fanac. So: I need both, and neither is a good sub for the other.
K. [PS: I am teaching the little lovey cursive, and I have long wanted to learn shorthand]

For me, typing notes on a computer screen is such a godsend. Searchable, bullet points, and legible even years later. I understand that mileage varies. :)
