Free eye surgery for soldiers leads to more pilots, fewer submariners. Interesting.

Yeah. Mostly I read the news and get grumpy, read sports to be entertained, and read historical scholarship to be stimulated.

What are the cons, other than money, of laser eye surgery? I'm very fortunate and have quite good vision, so have never had to look into it.

I'm not sure about "cons" as such, but I've been advised not to have it because of my family history of glaucoma. One of the treatments for glaucoma is a different variety of laser eye surgery and apparently it doesn't work as well on those who have had vision correction surgery.

Some number of people undergoing the surgery end up with worse, or no, vision. The number is small, but it is non-zero.

Another con is that, for people of a certain age, one will still need corrective lenses to deal with the effects of aging.
