SNOW DAY
"Classes are Canceled and Dominican University is Closed Today, Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 Due to Snow."
I'm torn between commenting on their weakness (it's just snow people), the acknowledgment that the roads are terrible and this is a commuter school, and thinking about making pancakes.
Pancakes it is!

Oh, and a trek along the road (still snow-covered, although ploughed in the early hours -- the sidewalks weren't at all) to the school to bring home all my work that I left there, stupidly, instead of bringing it home when they suggested there may be a snow day today. University-entrance marks are due next week, and Grade 9 scholarship exams due the week after that, so I don't have much choice. :P

Looks like all of River Forest's schools are closed today -the Catholic grade and High Schools are, too, as is the municipal school district.
Forest park (the suburb just to the south of your place) has also closed their municipal school district. The parochial schools have also closed in FP.
Now, Oak Park (where we are) has not closed the municipal schools or the High School (which is shared by Oak Park and River Forest. The parochial schools are closed.
D97 (the elementary school district) has always said that the grade/middle schools will close only when the staff can't get there, or the schools are not inhabitable (heat, etc).
OPRFHS last 'snow day' was in 1979. They make it a point of pride not to close. As one of the deans at OPRFHS said last year 'We're the Huskies, for heaven's sake! A little snow isn't going to bother us!)

It's weird here, tho. In the city, everything's normal, but the main freeway over the mtns (I-90)is closed. Avalanches fell on it. This is the same area where we went snowshoeing recently. I guess that's an example of the snow not staying where it's "supposed" to!
Mmmm, bacon. French toast!!! and Eggnog ...
We held classes in Shampoo Banana
Anyway, I guess my point is that not all people in the state of Illinois are weak.
