Help!
There's a Doonesbury comic from years ago (15 or more) where the history teacher loses it and starts to shout patent nonsense, "Black is white" is the one I remember, but could also be up is down, day is night, whatever. And the students diligently take notes, "Gee, I didn't know half of this stuff!"
I need a copy of it, pronto. Help!
Edit: Got it, thanks!

couldn't have found it without the text, though.

Have also passed it on to my AP English listserv -- there is a unit in one of the favourite instructional texts on the purpose / state of education. This fits nicely. :)

On finding a quality (and legal) copy
(Anonymous) 2008-03-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe ten years ago I bought another wonderful Doonesbury strip, also featuring this professor and concerning stenographer pupils -- the "civil disobedience" and "don't be afraid" one some may remember. It is marked 1-19 and must have been between 1985 and 1989.
Anyway, I went through doonesbury.com and it was easy. A bit expensive but a good quality color print. Someone even called me to apologize the original wasn't up to specs and did I want it anyway (it looks great).
Today, it's not easy. It appears that mycomicspage.com has exclusive control and requires membership even to search their archives. It's about $18 but I find the idea of paying for something I don't want just to get in the store offensive. If anyone knows a way around, please let me know, and if I find it I'll post same. I'll probably call them, I'm so annoyed.

Did so and the correct date for "teaching is dead" is 1/27/1985. See http://www.amureprints.com/Detail.asp?ImageID=20707
Called them and ... color 11"x17" (image size 9x13) acid free paper costs $65 (B&W strips cost $50) + $8.25 shipping
They'll frame it, too: metal frame $34, wood $42, $7 for matte
It's not a bargain but probably not too out of line for a custom job (and a great strip!). I'll think about it. Odd to have to talk to a human about it. The amureprints site sells rights for projects like reprinting in a book.
Good luck! Andrew
