I am really bored with the Heroes badguy. It's been 3 seasons. Every so often they pretend like the character might develop. It doesn't.

Then it's not just me. I loved the first season and felt the second season just dragged. And was unimpressed with the start of this season. we've yet to see tonight's episode. I feel like they don't really know where they are going with the story so they just drag it out with lots of dumb fighty action. Kind of like Lost did in their second and third season.

But first we must watch dumb funny "Chuck." So dumb and so funny it hurts. I didn't like it at first but it grew on me.

I feel it's largely the Sylar (sp?) character that holds the show back. He's not interesting. He keeps coming back, but just to reprise storylines they've already done.

Is she? I found her cliched.

The show bores me. I taped it for my wife.

Oh, but everything will be different now that he's got a Mommy again. And a much better Mommy than the last one, truly the Mommy he always dreamed he'd have.

I was getting bored with Sylar the Escalating Psycho last season but now I love him again. It's hard not to love an actor that's having so much fun with his role. I cracked up at that scene outside the hostage crisis when he looks around and goes, "Hey! I'm in a cop show now! Oh, boy!" and starts barking orders at the scared looking local fuzz, ending with, "Oh, and bring me some coffee!" *hee*

I don't know if you can exactly call it "character development." It's a little too random for that. This season kind of feels like the actors spent the entire writers' strike hanging around the set with Tim Kring complaining about their characters and whining, "I'm sick of being a stripper; I wanna be a smart political operative." "Yeah, well, I'm tired of doing stupid voice overs and getting beat up. I want to be a Love Machine!" "In that case, I'm not going to be a cheerleader anymore. I want a skin-tight rubber catsuit and a big ol' gun!" "Hey, that's not fair! I want..."

I just think the character is hitting /exactly/ the same note he did in the first episode we saw him. And last season. And last episode.

I think the show is dead to me. Like BSG. On grounds of tedium.

But wait! This time when they do X-Men's "Days of Future's Past" storyline, this time it will be different!

I don't feel that Sylar in particular holds the show back. I don't think too much of him as a character, but as a plot device he is somewhat useful. Anything that kills off characters from their already bloated cast is fine with me. They can't write for the ones they have already, and they keep adding more.

Hah. That's true enough.

By the way, if you are looking for a superhero show that is actually, y'know, fun, check out The Middleman. Do not be fooled by the fact that it is on ABC Family. It's really enjoyable. Charismatic leads, snappy dialog, batshit crazy plots. In the first three episodes alone, we've got talking gorillas (and the obligatory Gorilla Grodd reference), a trip to the underworld, and an army of luchadores. Season 1 is over now, but episodes can be found on iTunes or less savory corners of the net.

I've missed the first three hours of this season and, while I thought I would really want to see it, I'm feeling oddly unconcerned about it.

This is what happens when "seasons" drop to 12 episodes apiece with 3/4-year-hiatuses and nothing to show for all that time in terms of writing.
