I used to do a funk version of Queen of Argyle Socks. It's a little overdone in the Mpls Celtic music market/Renn Fest market, so I stopped doing it much.

there is a band named common rotation, which i have been wishing people would learn songs from. i have no idea if they are good for music parties or covering or whatnot, but if you are looking to hear new songs, that might be a good place to start.

I don't actually know any Moxy, it's sad to say. Kurt did Moxy so I never learned any. I've tried to learn the Drinking Song several times, but it's never stuck.

I don't remember ever hearing about Shindell.

And it seems there aren't nearly enough Jesus songs in there.

I've always thought people should learn some songs by Paul Westerberg and/or The Replacements ... You might try "Love Untold" or "Angels Walk" from the album Eventually. Or "Dyslexic Heart" available on the album "The Resterberg." They're all in the iTunes music store or I can burn you copies if you'd like.

Good to see your post mentioning "Door Number Three" and "City of New Orleans" by Steve Goodman. He often doesn't get his due. You might be interested in my 800-page biography, "Steve Goodman: Facing the Music." The book delves deeply into the genesis of "City of New Orleans," and Arlo Guthrie is a key source among my 1,050 interviewees and even contributed the foreword. Plus, there is background on "Door Number Three" and lots of detail about its co-writer, Jimmy Buffett, who also was an interviewee for the book.

I just remembered (and heard it in the car) about Nik Kershaw's "Billy". I think you would both enjoy doing it (I think it meshes with your style) and others would enjoy hearing it. You should add it to your list.
